The Future Is Bright’ — Aduku Hails Falconets Despite U-20 WWC Exit
Falconets head coach Moses Aduku has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future despite the team’s heartbreaking exit from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria’s campaign ended in agonising fashion on Sunday after Valerin Loboa struck in the 92nd minute to give Colombia a 1-0 victory at Stadion Miejski LKS in Lodz.
The late defeat sent Colombia into the semi-finals, where they will face DPR Korea, while Nigeria were left to reflect on a tournament in which several youngsters caught the eye.
Goalkeeper Christianah Uzoma, Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei and Ramotalahi Kareem were among the players who impressed during the Falconets’ campaign.
Despite the disappointment, Aduku believes the tournament will provide valuable experience for the young squad and help accelerate their development.
“First and foremost, this tournament is good for the young players,” Aduku told FIFA.
“It gives them the ability to grow and reach the next level. I think, in Nigeria, we have seen the future of our players.
“And I think the future is very bright.”
The Falconets’ quarter-final appearance therefore marks another important stage in the development of a group of players Aduku believes can go on to make a significant impact at senior level.
