Super Falcons Suffer Biggest Points Drop As Spain Extend Women’s World Ranking Lead
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have suffered the biggest points decline in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, losing a staggering 83.54 points as Spain strengthened their grip on the global summit.

According to the latest ranking released by FIFA after 183 international matches, Nigeria recorded the sharpest points drop among the teams assessed, although the governing body’s statement did not specify the Super Falcons’ new world position.

The setback comes amid a difficult period for Nigerian women’s football, following the team’s disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they failed to reach the semi-finals and subsequently missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

At the top of the rankings, reigning world champions Spain extended their advantage after recording a victory and a draw in two away friendlies against the United States, who retained second position.

Spain have now opened a lead of almost 80 points over the Americans, while Germany maintained third place after winning both of their home friendlies.

Malawi emerged as the biggest climbers, surging 49 places to 104th after gaining 158.44 points. The Scorchers’ remarkable rise followed their run to the WAFCON final, historic qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup and impressive results in Olympic qualifying matches.

Cameroon, the new African champions, climbed nine places to 62nd, while Tanzania moved up 11 places to 111th. Burkina Faso also improved, rising nine places to 109th.

Elsewhere, Denmark returned to the global top 10 for the first time since August 2010, climbing two places to 10th after recording a win and a draw away to Canada. The Netherlands slipped to 11th, while North Korea dropped to 12th. Canada remained ninth.

Slovenia also achieved a historic milestone, rising two places to 36th — their highest-ever position in the ranking.

Egypt recorded the biggest decline in position, falling 14 places to 113th after losing all three group matches at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Zimbabwe dropped nine places to 136th, while the Democratic Republic of Congo fell eight places to 114th.

Algeria and Morocco played the most matches during the ranking period, with 10 games apiece.

The latest update reflects results from recent international windows, including matches linked to qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and Olympic qualifying competitions.

FIFA has scheduled the next edition of the Women’s World Ranking for December 7, 2026.
