Ronaldo Hit With 30-Day Ban By Portuguese FA Over National Team Row
Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) after being found guilty of leaving the national team camp without authorisation.

The disciplinary decision follows a reported disagreement between the 41-year-old Al-Nassr captain and coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the squad.

The FPF’s disciplinary council upheld the charge against the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, imposing a 30-day suspension and a fine of €255.

Ronaldo was found to have intentionally breached Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary regulations, which provides for suspensions ranging from one to six months for players who abandon national team duties without permission.

However, the panel considered mitigating circumstances presented by the forward’s legal team, including his illustrious career and a public apology issued on October 6, 2026.

In the apology, Ronaldo expressed regret over leaving his teammates and failing to acknowledge supporters.

The disciplinary council’s ruling confirmed the conviction, stating that the offence had been committed intentionally and imposing the 30-day ban alongside the financial penalty.

The federation has yet to clarify which specific fixtures or activities will be affected by the suspension or whether any provisional suspension already served will count towards the punishment.

FPF president Pedro Proença has reportedly expressed the federation’s hope that Ronaldo will return once the matter is resolved.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has indicated that he remains available for selection after serving his punishment.

The development adds another chapter to the veteran forward’s eventful international career, with attention now focused on how the suspension will affect his future commitments with Portugal.
