Osun Election: Adeleke Receives Certificate of Return, Announces ₦500m Victims’ Fund
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the conclusion of the state’s governorship electoral process.
The certificate was presented to Adeleke on Wednesday by INEC National Commissioner, Professor Kunle Ajayi, who represents the South-West and supervises electoral activities in Osun, Ogun and Ondo states.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Adeleke announced plans by his administration to establish a ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund to support verified victims and families affected by election-related violence.
He said a Verification and Relief Committee, to be chaired by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Olumide Egbedun, would oversee the identification of victims and ensure transparent and equitable distribution of the funds.
Adeleke stressed that the initiative was humanitarian rather than political, assuring that eligible victims would not be discriminated against based on political affiliation, religion, ethnicity, gender or social status.
He also disclosed that the Adeleke family, through the Springtime Development Foundation, would provide full scholarships up to university level for children and dependants of people who lost their lives during the violence.
“The election is over. The campaign is over. The contest is over. Now is the time to govern, unite, heal and build,” Adeleke said.
He thanked the people of Osun State for participating in the electoral process, adding that he remained governor for all residents regardless of how they voted.
“To those who voted for me, I thank you. To those who voted for another candidate, I thank you for participating in our democracy. I remain Governor to all, and together we must place Osun State above politics,” he said.
