Osun APC Kicks Against Tinubu Campaign Council Inauguration, Alleges Plot To Cause Rift
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the proposed inauguration of the state presidential campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, alleging that the process could create an avoidable misunderstanding between party leaders and Governor Ademola Adeleke, the appointed state coordinator.

Prominent figures listed on the council include former Governor Adebisi Akande; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru; the party’s 2026 governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji; and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Foluke Etteh.

Others are Senators Iyiola Omisore, Jide Omoworare and Sola Adeyeye; Yinka Ajayi; former Deputy Governor Titilayo Ponle; Akintunde Adegboye; and Mumini Olabanji.

The list also features state executives of the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord, alongside candidates of the APC and Accord for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, former federal and state lawmakers, party chieftains and local government chairmen.

However, the inclusion of opposition figures has raised questions about the composition and coordination of the council, with sources in Adeleke’s camp and the Osun APC indicating that no formal meeting had been held to agree on how Tinubu’s re-election campaign would be managed in the state since the governor’s appointment.

An APC source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment officially, said the party leadership was yet to meet on the matter.

“The two camps have not met. We just saw the list like everyone in the state. There is uncertainty around it, but I can’t officially say what the APC reaction will be,” the source said.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Osun APC to the list and the invitation to the council’s inauguration were unsuccessful. Calls to the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, went unanswered, while responses to text and WhatsApp messages were still being awaited as of 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday.

However, the party’s position was conveyed by Lawal, who acknowledged the importance of Tinubu’s re-election campaign and said the APC had agreed to Adeleke’s appointment as the state coordinator.

He noted that cooperation among the political parties could strengthen the President’s chances but insisted that the inauguration should be properly scheduled and conducted in line with established political protocols.

Lawal said the party was unaware of any formal inauguration beyond the publication of names on social media by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday afternoon.

He described the short notice and the absence of prior consultation with the party’s state leadership as troubling.

“In as much as we consider the re-election of the national leader of our party, President Tinubu, as a collective task which we have been working vigorously and assiduously to achieve through various means, it is our view and conviction that such an exercise should be properly scheduled,” he said.

Lawal argued that the re-election campaign of a sitting President required a high level of organisation and official protocol, stressing that announcing the council’s membership less than 24 hours before the proposed inauguration could prevent key stakeholders from participating.

He further alleged that publishing the list without prior consultation was a ploy to set the Osun APC against Tinubu.

“It is our belief that listing the names of members of the State Presidential Campaign Committee less than 24 hours before the event proper without any prior meeting with the leadership of the party in the state was a ploy to set the state chapter of the party against the President, which can neither fly nor sit, as we consider the project as our baby which shouldn’t be handled with levity,” he said.

The APC chieftain also alleged that the arrangement could trigger an unnecessary disagreement between the party and Adeleke, adding that the state chapter would do everything possible to prevent such a development.

He, however, stressed that the Osun APC was not opposed to making concessions or working with other political stakeholders to secure Tinubu’s re-election in the forthcoming presidential election.

“Our concern is that things should be done in a proper way to achieve desired results,” Lawal said.
