Osimhen Set To Miss Up To One Month With Groin Injury
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is facing up to a month on the sidelines after suffering a significant groin injury in Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir.
Galatasaray confirmed that the Nigeria international sustained a moderate-to-severe strain to his right adductor following an MRI scan and further medical examinations at Acıbadem Hospital.
Osimhen was forced off during Friday’s league encounter after appearing to experience discomfort.
The 27-year-old is expected to spend between three weeks and one month recovering from the injury, ruling him out of several crucial fixtures for both club and country.
At club level, Osimhen is set to miss Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League opener against Sporting Lisbon, as well as Turkish Super Lig matches against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
However, the injury could prove more costly for Nigeria, with Osimhen now expected to miss the Super Eagles’ opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches this month.
Nigeria are scheduled to host Madagascar on September 23 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.
Osimhen’s potential absence represents a major blow to the Super Eagles, with the prolific forward regarded as one of Nigeria’s most important attacking players.
