Musiala Reveals Treatable Neurological Condition After Second On-Pitch Collapse
Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala has spoken publicly after collapsing during a match for the second time in four days, revealing that he has been diagnosed with temporary and treatable absence seizures.
The 23-year-old winger collapsed just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute during Bayern Munich’s friendly against FC Heidenheim on Tuesday night.
The incident came only days after Musiala experienced a similar episode during Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig, raising concerns about his health.
However, Musiala moved to reassure supporters, saying he is receiving medical treatment and that there are no further health risks.
“First things first – I’m doing well! I’m especially grateful for your messages and support,” Musiala wrote on Instagram.
“I understand that many of you are worried. I’d like to alleviate those concerns today and explain something: I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction.
“These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim.”
Musiala said the episodes may appear frightening but have become part of his daily life while he undergoes treatment.
“I know they seem scary at first glance – but for me, they’re currently just part of my everyday life,” he added.
The Bayern star also expressed confidence in his recovery, thanking the club, his family, friends and medical experts for their support.
“I’m receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey,” he said.
Musiala further revealed that, after consulting neurologists, he has chosen to continue focusing on his football and everyday life.
“Importantly, there are no further health risks,” he stated. “In close consultation and regular communication with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the clearance from the neurologists, to continue focusing on what helps me most in my recovery: simply living my daily life and pursuing my passion for playing football.”
He concluded by asking for privacy as he continues his recovery, while expressing his desire to return to helping Bayern challenge for more victories and trophies.
