Katsina United Player Ozoh Chinedu Dies During Pre-Season Friendly
Katsina United Football Club have been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of newly signed player Ozoh Chinedu during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes on Tuesday.
Ozoh reportedly suffered a medical emergency during the match played at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
The player was immediately attended to before being rushed to K-Dara Specialist Hospital for urgent medical treatment. However, despite efforts to save his life, he reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Katsina United confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued by the club’s Media Directorate and shared on its official Facebook page.
“The football community in Katsina State and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Ozoh, a newly signed player of Katsina United Football Club and former Kano Pillars FC player,” the club stated.
Ozoh joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars and was preparing to play a role in the club’s campaign for the upcoming season.
The club said his death had shocked his teammates, coaches, management, supporters and the wider football community, particularly because he had only recently joined the team.
“The circumstances surrounding his sudden death are yet to be fully established, and further details are expected from the club, medical authorities or his family,” the statement added.
Katsina United described Ozoh’s death as a painful loss, while praying for strength and comfort for his family, teammates, friends and everyone affected by the tragedy.
“May God grant his family, teammates, friends, Katsina United FC and the entire football community the strength to bear this painful loss,” the club said.
