Isner Hails Djokovic’s Hunger As ATP Finals Race Heats Up
Former American tennis star John Isner has praised Novak Djokovic’s relentless drive and commitment to the sport as the race for the remaining places at the 2026 ATP Finals in Turin intensifies.
Despite his remarkable achievements and advancing years, Djokovic remains determined to compete against the ATP Tour’s leading players as he battles for a place at the season-ending championship.
Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton have already secured qualification, leaving five places available as the battle for the remaining spots gathers momentum.
Speaking to Tennis365, Isner said Djokovic’s continued hunger to compete was a testament to his mentality, adding that many would have understood if the Serbian had chosen to end his season early and focus on the Australian Open.
“It shows his mindset,” Isner said. “No one would be surprised, or everyone would understand, if he kind of shut it down this year. No, he is hungry and hungrier than ever.
“I thought it was going to be the opposite after the US Open. I thought he’d maybe try to shut it down then gear up for Australia. No, look what he’s doing. It’s pretty amazing.”
The qualification race has become more unpredictable following Jannik Sinner’s decision to cut short his season because of injury.
That development has strengthened the chances of contenders such as Flavio Cobolli, Daniil Medvedev and Frances Tiafoe, while Djokovic faces competition from Alex de Minaur and Arthur Fils for the remaining berths.
With several players still battling for qualification, the final places are expected to be decided in a tense finish to the ATP season, with Djokovic’s determination adding another compelling storyline to the race.
