If Atiku Wins, He Will Sell Nigerian Refineries To His Friends – Kwankwaso Warns Nigerians Ahead Of 2027

NDC Vice Presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has warned Nigerians that Atiku Abubakar will sell Nigeria's 4 refineries to his friends if elected.

Speaking Tuesday on Arise News, Kwankwaso was discussing fuel subsidy removal when he dropped the bombshell:

"In 2023 during campaigns, I remember the three of them (Tinubu, Atiku, Obi), all of them said they will remove subsidy. In fact, before then, Atiku added that he will sell all the four refineries to his friends."

When anchor interjected that Atiku only said privatise, Kwankwaso insisted:

 "That's what I know."

Kwankwaso who is Obi's running mate for 2027 under NDC blasted Tinubu for hasty removal:

 "Among three of them, Bola Tinubu decided to remove subsidy day one, without looking at possible issues, and that's how we found ourselves in total mess economically. Everybody realizes it was a mistake."

He said NDC will bring back subsidy in its own way:

"We are bringing subsidy in our own way. If individuals can build refineries, I see no reason why government under certain circumstances will not build refineries. We will do whatever it takes to put price of oil down."

Atiku has repeatedly said he will privatize NNPC and refineries since 2019, arguing businessmen will run them better. He said Feb 2026 after NNPC spent $1.5bn on Port Harcourt refinery and still failed, that refineries should have been sold before rehabilitation.

But ADC's new policy is production subsidy – only locally refined petrol will be subsidized, not imported, with fixed spending limit and NASS approval.
