FRSC Deploys 2,500 Personnel, 50 Vehicles For Osun Governorship Election
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The deployment includes seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, which have been positioned across the state’s three senatorial districts to support traffic management, emergency response and road safety.
According to the FRSC, 2,300 personnel were drawn from the Osun Sector Command, while 50 personnel each were deployed from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun sector commands.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed the deployment in a statement issued on Friday.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the exercise was part of the agency’s statutory responsibility to ensure safe and orderly movement during the election.
He assured that FRSC personnel would operate with professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights while working with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other relevant agencies.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mohammed said.
The Corps also announced plans for a Train-the-Trainer Workshop for personnel assigned to election duties. Representatives of the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are expected to participate.
It further stated that vehicles supplied by fleet operators for the transportation of electoral materials would be inspected and certified to ensure they are roadworthy and meet required safety standards.
The FRSC said enforcement vehicles would be deployed from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, with personnel stationed at strategic locations across the state.
The Corps warned motorists and transport operators to plan their journeys, obey traffic regulations and avoid restricted routes, noting that the restriction of movement order would be strictly enforced in designated areas.
FRSC operatives are expected to handle traffic control, crowd management, obstruction clearance and rescue operations before, during and after the election in collaboration with other security agencies.
