Ex-Australian Sprint Champion Jake Doran Arrested Over Child Sex Offence
Former Australian sprint champion Jake Doran has been provisionally suspended by Australian Athletics after being charged with an alleged child sex offence.
Doran, 26, was arrested last week in Townsville, Queensland, and charged with one count of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16.
According to national broadcaster ABC, the athlete was granted bail and is expected to appear in court on November 5.
Doran is a two-time Australian national champion in the 200 metres. He also represented his country at two World Athletics Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
In a statement on Thursday, Australian Athletics confirmed that it had taken provisional action against the athlete following information about the charge.
The suspension bars Doran from attending club, member association and Australian Athletics events, as well as participating in training activities.
“The safety and wellbeing of all participants in our sport is paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature very seriously,” the governing body said.
The charge remains an allegation, and the case is expected to return to court next month.
