Etsako East Council Boss Sunny Ekpeson Donates ₦2m To Auchi Catholic Cathedral Harvest As Bishop Dunia Rains Blessings
The Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Edo State Chapter, Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, has donated ₦2 million to the 2026 Children and Youth Harvest Thanksgiving Mass/Bazaar of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Auchi.
The gesture came as the Cathedral gathered the faithful on Sunday, August 9, 2026, for its annual thanksgiving celebration, themed “Harvest of Gratitude,” in an atmosphere marked by worship, thanksgiving and communal fellowship.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Ghiakhomo Dunia, who led the congregation in prayers and thanksgiving.
During donations, Ekpeson who has never loss his trust in God, said his donation was principally an expression of gratitude to God and appreciation to the organisers for their efforts in advancing the spiritual and developmental interests of children and youths through the Church.
Reflecting on his emergence and responsibilities in public office, the council chairman attributed his capacity to steer the affairs of Etsako East to divine providence, acknowledging that his journey in leadership would not have been possible without the grace of God.
He said God had continued to furnish him with wisdom, knowledge and understanding, qualities he considers indispensable in administering a local government as expansive and diverse as Etsako East.
According to him, the magnitude of public responsibility makes reliance on divine guidance imperative, particularly when the decisions taken in office have direct consequences for the welfare and aspirations of the people.
The ₦2 million donation therefore became more than a financial contribution to a church harvest; it was presented as a gesture of thanksgiving to God, fellowship with the Catholic community and support for the formative work being undertaken among children and youths.
In his pastoral blessing, Bishop Dunia prayed specially for Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, asking God to increase his wisdom, preserve him from harm and grant him the grace, strength and discernment required to discharge the responsibilities of leadership.
The Bishop's prayer resonated with the congregation, who joined in seeking divine favour, protection and continued guidance for the council chairman and his administration.
The Children and Youth Harvest of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral remains an important ecclesiastical gathering, bringing together the younger generation in an atmosphere where faith, moral formation, fellowship and service are woven into the life of the Church.
