Court Strikes Out FG’s Charges Against Alleged Fake Agency DG, Adeniyi Adeyemi
The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charges on Monday following an application by the Federal Government to discontinue the case.
Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and identified legal gaps in the charges initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police.
Oyedepo explained that the alleged forged documents were offences that should be prosecuted before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory rather than the Federal High Court.
He informed the court that a fresh charge had been filed at the FCT High Court, where Adeyemi would be arraigned again, and urged the judge to strike out the existing charges.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, prompting Justice Umar to terminate the proceedings.
Adeyemi, 38, was standing trial alongside two other alleged accomplices, identified only as Femi and Anu, whose whereabouts were unknown. The defendants faced allegations bordering on conspiracy and forgery.
The discontinuation of the case clears the way for the Federal Government to pursue the allegations through fresh proceedings at the FCT High Court.
