Chelsea Complete Chavarría Signing From Rayo Vallecano
Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Spanish left-back Pep Chavarría from La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano as the Premier League club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 28-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2031. Chelsea confirmed that Chavarría will immediately join his new teammates at Cobham for pre-season preparations.
The transfer is reportedly worth an initial £16.3 million, with a further £1.7 million potentially payable in add-ons, although Chelsea did not disclose the financial terms in its official announcement.
Chavarría expressed his delight at completing the move, describing Chelsea as one of the biggest clubs in the world and promising to work hard to help the team achieve its ambitions.
“I’m so excited to get started. This is a dream for me,” the Spaniard said.
From Spain’s Lower Leagues to Stamford Bridge
Chavarría's rise to the Premier League has been gradual. He began his senior career with hometown club UE Figueres in Spain’s fourth tier before moving to UE Olot, where he established himself as an attack-minded left-back.
He later joined Real Zaragoza in 2020 and made his professional debut against Las Palmas before earning a move to Rayo Vallecano in 2022.
At Rayo, Chavarría developed into a reliable top-flight defender and became an important member of the squad.
He made 125 appearances for the Madrid-based club and played a key role in their run to the UEFA Conference League final last season.
His arrival provides Chelsea with additional quality and competition at left-back, particularly following Marc Cucurella’s departure.
The move also represents another important addition for manager Xabi Alonso as he reshapes the squad for the new campaign.
