Atiku Unveils 2027 Campaign Council, Names El-Rufai, Amaechi, Kingibe, Others
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has unveiled his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, with former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi among prominent figures appointed to the campaign structure.
The council is chaired by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, while El-Rufai will serve as deputy chairman.
Senator Austin Akobundu was named Director-General and Campaign Manager.
The composition of the campaign council was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communications for the council and Senior Special Assistant to Atiku on Public Communication.
According to the statement, the campaign structure was designed to reflect the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, including rising food and transport costs, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
Atiku will serve as the presidential candidate, with Amaechi as his running mate, while former Senate President David Mark will serve as national chairman.
Campaign Advisory Board
The Campaign Advisory Board will be chaired by former INEC chairman John Oyegun, with Lawal Batagarawa as deputy chairman and Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, as secretary.
Other members include Senator Ireti Kingibe and Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed.
Policy Team
The Policy Team will be chaired by Mohammed Hayatudeen, with Prof. Mohammed Sagagi as deputy chairman and Aare Aremijoye as secretary.
Members include former CBN deputy governor Kingsley Moghalu, Prof. Mustapha Akinkunmi and Senator Abdul Ningi.
Senior Campaign Advisers
Those appointed as senior campaign advisers include former governors Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Abdulfatah Ahmed and Emeka Ihedioha.
Others are Adamu Maina Waziri, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, Senator Felix Ogunwale and Senator Patricia Akwashiki.
Campaign Management
Akobundu will also head the Campaign Management Committee as Director-General/Campaign Manager, while CID Maduabum will oversee research and documentation.
Shaibu Enejo Aruwa, SAN, will head legal services.
The Administration Directorate will be headed by Deputy DG Yusuf Suleiman, with portfolios covering administration, general services, special duties, finance and accounts, logistics, protocol and medical services.
The Operations Directorate will be led by Chief Ralph Nwosu, with responsibilities including organisation and field operations, strategy and planning, security, diaspora operations and intelligence.
Media, Mobilisation Teams
Former ThisDay publisher Dele Momodu was named Deputy DG of the Media and Communications Directorate.
Phrank Shaibu will oversee strategic communication, while Kola Ologbondiyan will handle media and publicity. Ladan Salihu will head branding, with Moji Rhodes-Vivour responsible for digital and online media.
The campaign's spokespersons include Kenneth Okonkwo, Keturah King, Nana Kazaure, Dr Uche Diala and Dahiru Maishanu.
Senator Dino Melaye will serve as Deputy DG of the Contact and Mobilisation Directorate, with portfolios covering mandate protection, women mobilisation, persons with disabilities, stakeholder engagement and youth mobilisation.
The Diversity and Support Groups Directorate will be headed by Salihu Tanko Yakasai, while Lauretta Onochie will lead the Technical and Systems Directorate.
The technical team will oversee election operations and management, polling unit operations, voter intelligence, monitoring and evaluation, as well as the campaign's situation room.
Shaibu said Atiku had directed that the council's performance should be measured by how effectively it addresses the challenges facing Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
