AFCON 2027Q: Super Eagles Camp Comes Alive As 20 Players Arrive For Madagascar Clash
The Super Eagles’ camp in Ikot Ekpene has begun to gather momentum, with 20 players arriving ahead of Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Madagascar on Friday.
Head coach Éric Chelle and his backroom staff opened camp on Monday at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekene, as the bulk of the invited squad reported for duty.
The team is scheduled to hold its first training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Tuesday evening as preparations intensify for the encounter with the Barea.
The first 15 minutes of the session will be open to the media and members of the public.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali are expected to join the squad on Tuesday, while four other players are still expected to arrive as Chelle works towards having his full squad available.
The players already in camp are Simon Moses, Akor Adams, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac James, Emmanuel Fernandez, Benjamin Fredericks, Moses Uzor, George Ilenikhena, Arthur Okonkwo, Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Chibuike Nwaiwu, Tolu Arokodare, Bruno Onyemeachi, Raphael Onyedika and Frank Onyeka.
Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday before travelling to Bissau for their second qualifier against Guinea-Bissau next Tuesday.
Chelle’s men will be looking to begin their qualifying campaign on a positive note as they target a place at the 2027 AFCON finals.
With the squad now taking shape, the focus will shift to tactical drills, team combinations and final preparations ahead of Friday’s clash in Uyo.
