AFCON 2027Q: Chadian Referee Mahamat Gets Super Eagles-Madagascar Clash
Chadian referee Alhadji Allaou Mahamat has been appointed to take charge of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying opener against Madagascar.
The 40-year-old official will oversee Friday’s Group-stage encounter between the Super Eagles and the Barea at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Mahamat is an experienced CAF match official, having handled fixtures in competitions including the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and the African Nations Championship.
The Chadian is also no stranger to the Super Eagles, having refereed two of Nigeria’s matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
He was the centre referee when Nigeria edged Rwanda 1-0 and was also in charge of the Super Eagles’ away clash against Lesotho in South Africa, which Nigeria won 2-1.
Mahamat will now take charge as Nigeria begin their campaign for a place at the 2027 AFCON finals.
The Super Eagles will be hoping to make a winning start in Uyo against a Madagascar side that has already talked up its chances ahead of the encounter.
