Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has renewed his claim that he won Nigeriaโs 2023 presidential election, saying records held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) support his position.
ย
Obi reportedly made the claim while speaking with a foreign journalist on Thursday, insisting that although INEC announced a different winner, the records had not been altered.
ย
โI won in 2023 and INEC record still shows it, theyโve not been able to change it even though they announced something different,โ Obi said.
ย
However, INECโs official 2023 General Election Report records Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress as elected with 8,794,726 votes, while Obi received 6,101,533 votes.
ย
Obi and Atiku Abubakar challenged the election result in court. The Supreme Court ultimately upheld Tinubuโs victory in October 2023.
ย
Obi has nevertheless continued to maintain that he won the election.
