𝗡𝗮𝗳𝗶𝘂 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗖 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁, 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗔𝘁𝗶𝗸𝘂 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗔𝗗𝗖 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) listing of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
 
Bala, who is challenging the leadership of the David Mark-led faction, maintains that Atiku is not a member of the ADC and therefore cannot contest the presidential election on the party’s platform.
 
The development comes after INEC published its final list of presidential candidates, which names Atiku as the ADC candidate alongside former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate. 
 
Bala’s faction has previously disowned Atiku’s candidacy and warned against using the ADC’s name, logo and symbols without its authorisation. 
 
However, INEC currently recognises the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, while Bala’s legal challenge to the party’s leadership remains before the courts, with the case adjourned to September 28.
